PROVINCIAL & MUNICIPAL SCHOLARSHIPS

PROVINCIAL & MUNICIPAL GOVERNMENT SCHOLARSHIPS

Provincial & Municipal Government Scholarships

Your scholarship opportunity may depend on where you study.

Chinese provinces and municipalities operate their own scholarship programs for eligible international students.

These scholarships are separate from the national CSC system and their conditions can vary significantly between locations.

Examples may include scholarships offered by:

  • Beijing
  • Shanghai
  • Liaoning
  • Jiangsu
  • Hunan
  • Zhejiang
  • Guangdong
  • Shaanxi
  • Other provinces and municipalities

The participating universities, eligible programs, scholarship amounts and deadlines depend on the specific local program.

Example — Beijing Government Scholarship

The 2026 Beijing Government Scholarship supports outstanding international students studying or conducting research at eligible institutions in Beijing.

It has three scholarship categories:

Category A

May cover:

  • Tuition
  • Accommodation
  • Living expenses
  • Comprehensive medical insurance

Category B

May cover:

  • Tuition
  • Accommodation
  • Comprehensive medical insurance

Category C

May cover:

  • Tuition
  • Comprehensive medical insurance

The scholarship can be available to eligible Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctoral students, as well as certain non-degree students, preparatory students, visiting students and research scholars.

Who decides?

The host university reviews applications and determines scholarship recipients. Applicants must also meet the university’s admission requirements.

Important

Provincial and municipal scholarships are not automatically available at every university in that province or city.

Always check the current scholarship announcement of your target university.

Sometimes the city you choose can influence the funding opportunities available to you.
