Chinese Government Scholarship — Bilateral Program

Government-to-government scholarship opportunities for international students.

The Bilateral Program is one of the major routes under the Chinese Government Scholarship framework.

It is based on educational cooperation and exchange arrangements between China and participating countries, institutions or international organizations.

Depending on the arrangement available in a student’s country, the program may support undergraduate, Master’s and Doctoral study, as well as certain scholar and exchange categories.

How is it different?

The main difference is where you apply.

For many Bilateral Program applicants, the application is handled through the designated authority in the student’s home country, such as a government education authority, scholarship body or Chinese diplomatic mission.

This means the application procedure can be different from a university-direct CSC application.

What can it cover?

A full award may include:

• Tuition
• Accommodation
• Medical insurance
• Monthly living allowance
• Preparatory Chinese-language study where applicable

Current CSC standards commonly list monthly allowances of:

Bachelor’s: RMB 2,500
Master’s: RMB 3,000
Doctoral: RMB 3,500
