Chinese Government Scholarship — Silk Road Program
Study in China through a scholarship designed around international educational cooperation.
The Silk Road Scholarship Program is a category of Chinese Government Scholarship implemented through selected Chinese universities.
It supports international students from participating countries and is particularly associated with educational cooperation under the Belt and Road framework.
However, there is an important distinction:
Silk Road Scholarship availability is university- and program-specific.
Participating universities decide which academic disciplines, degree levels and nationalities they will recruit for each intake.
What can it cover?
Depending on the participating university and approved scholarship:
- Full tuition
- University accommodation
- Comprehensive medical insurance
- Monthly living allowance
For example, current 2026 university announcements show full scholarship packages with monthly allowances of:
Master’s: RMB 3,000/month
Doctoral: RMB 3,500/month
Some participating universities also offer Silk Road opportunities at Bachelor’s level, with the applicable scholarship allowance determined by the program.
Who is it for?
Requirements vary by university, but applicants normally need to:
- Be a non-Chinese citizen
- Come from an eligible country
- Meet the university’s academic requirements
- Meet applicable age requirements
- Meet language requirements
- Apply for an eligible program
- Meet CSC requirements
Some universities restrict their Silk Road scholarship to specific nationalities and academic disciplines.
Important
Being from a Belt and Road country does not automatically mean you receive the scholarship.
The university must be participating, the program must be eligible, and the applicant must pass the relevant academic and scholarship review.
